In short: Big events in Lyon push hotel prices up and rooms sell out weeks ahead. For a trade fair at Eurexpo, stay at Part-Dieu or along metro D, then take tram T5 from Grange Blanche; for Groupama Stadium or LDLC Arena, stay at Part-Dieu, linked by tram T3; for the Fête des Lumières and city festivals, stay in the Presqu'île or Vieux-Lyon. Questions

When should I book a hotel for a big event in Lyon?

As soon as you know your dates. For the Fête des Lumières, Sirha or a stadium concert, central hotels are often full weeks ahead. Choose a rate with free cancellation so you can still change your plans.

Where should I stay for a trade fair at Eurexpo?

Part-Dieu or a hotel along metro D is the most practical: tram T5 runs to Eurexpo from Grange Blanche (metro D), and you have restaurants for the evening. Hotels right next to Eurexpo are closer but there is very little to do around them.

Where should I stay for a concert or match at Groupama Stadium or LDLC Arena?

Part-Dieu: tram T3 goes from Part-Dieu to the stadium and arena, and Part-Dieu has far more hotels and restaurants than Décines. You avoid the traffic and parking around the venues.
