Fête des Lumières 2026
City centre, Presqu'île
Four free evenings of light installations across the city centre. Lyon's busiest dates of the year.
The Fête des Lumières is Lyon's biggest event: light installations on monuments, squares and parks across the city centre, over four evenings around 8 December. It draws visitors from all over the world.
During the festival the centre is largely closed to traffic and public transport is very busy. The best choice is a room within walking distance of the installations: the Presqu'île, Vieux-Lyon or the edge of Croix-Rousse.
Hotels in the centre are often fully booked months ahead. Book as soon as the dates are announced, and choose a rate with free cancellation if your plans may change.
Where to stay
Stay within walking distance of the installations:
Presqu'île & Bellecour
The very centre, between the two rivers.
Vieux-Lyon
Renaissance old town at the foot of Fourvière.
Croix-Rousse
The village on the hill, former silk workers' district.
